Senior Cycle Reform

Supporting Irish secondary schools through Senior Cycle reform with confidence. Senior Cycle reform is changing how students demonstrate learning and how schools plan for assessment, equity, and long-term sustainability. As additional assessment components become a core part of the Senior Cycle, schools are re-examining how technology can support students and teachers in a way that is consistent, manageable, and future-focused.

Technology that supports learning, assessment and choice.

At Select, we work with post-primary schools across Ireland as an Apple Premium Education Partner, supporting leadership teams as they plan, implement, and sustain technology that aligns with educational intent.

This page brings together our Senior Cycle guidance, events, and resources in one place.

Technology as an Enabler of Senior Cycle reform

Senior Cycle reform places greater emphasis on:

  • Research, project work, and reflection
  • Evidence of learning captured over time
  • Consistent access to digital tools, both in school and at home

Technology does not drive these changes, but when implemented well, it enables them. Schools tell us that what matters most is equity for students, clarity for families, and solutions that are sustainable year after year.

Our role is to help schools explore their options and choose an approach that fits their context.

Technology Pathways for Senior Cycle.

Irish secondary schools are currently using a number of established technology approaches to support Senior Cycle reform. Rather than promoting a single solution, we support schools in understanding where each pathway may be appropriate.

The right approach is the one that supports your students, your teachers, and your school community.

Class Act

A school-leased iPad model designed for shared or classroom-based access. Commonly used where schools want flexibility, predictable costs, and a scalable approach to Senior Cycle delivery without committing to 1:1 devices.

Class Ready (iPad)

A parent-funded 1:1 iPad programme designed to support equity, consistency, and clear engagement with families. Well suited to schools embedding Additional Assessment Components across subjects and year groups.

Class Ready Plus (MacBook Air)

An alternative pathway for schools and families seeking a laptop-first device that supports Senior Cycle and continues into third-level education. Offered where it aligns with school intent and family preference.

Supporting Leadership, Teachers and Families

Successful Senior Cycle implementation depends on more than devices.

Select supports schools with:

  • Planning and consultation at leadership level
  • Device deployment and management
  • Professional services and Apple Professional Learning
  • Direct parent and student support

This ensures technology works reliably in practice and supports teaching, assessment, and student progress rather than adding complexity.
